SCCM 2012 - Installing software using TS variables - reboot causes problem

Question

Hello,

We are using SCCM2012 RTM in an infrastructure with a CAS.

To deploy department software within the task sequence we use collection variables. All applications that should be installed using that variables are marked with “Allow this application to be installed from the Install Application task sequence…” and there is no user interaction needed.

When an application requires a reboot the reboot is done after the installation during the TS and the TS continues with other applications in the list afterwards. So, it seems that everything works fine but all applications that should be installed after the reboot won’t work. In the status message queries everything looks fine. There is no error message or something. But there are no files copied or installed.

Is this a known bug? Or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

no, as far as I know there is no possibility to initiate a reboot within a dynamic software installation using the build-in step. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I initiate the reboot by modifying the settings in the deployment type setting of the application. I set the return code 0 to “hard reboot”. The reboot does work within the Task Sequence but afterwards the installation of other software will not continue.

I've found the solution. This behavior is a known issue that will be fixed in CU1

"When a dynamic list is used for the Install Application task sequence, not all deployment types will be installed. This issue occurs when one of the deployment types restarts the computer. In this case, any deployment type after the restart is not installed. The state messages that are associated with each application indicate Success. This issue can be seen most clearly in the smsts.log file on the client when the log file is filtered in the CMTrace for entries that contain the text "Installing application.""
