sccmn00b Posted January 12, 2013 Report post Posted January 12, 2013 Being new to SCCM I have a few queries on how application and managed or entitled to Users and Devices. So far I have been able to understand the concept of 'pushing' software down to devices/users but I am having difficulty in understanding the management/administration processes around this. For example, I plan on using AD Groups to manage the applications installations on our estate and for this I would perform the following tasks:- Create a Domain Local Security group called 'SCCM-Visio' Add the computers I wish to receive my application to the above group Create an 'Application' called Visio Create device collection call 'SCCM-Visio' which holds the machine in the 'SCCM-Visio' Ad group. Deploy the 'Application' Visio to the device collection 'SCCM-Visio' This will enable the software to be installed for all members of the group and so far works successfully. Now, I have a few queries on how an SCCM admin would manage the following scenarios:- One of the machines in the 'SCCM-Visio' needs to have the application removed due to licensing purposes (as an example). How do I do about removing it from one machine only? An additional device needs Visio. I then add this new device to the group and attempt a deployment, do I target the 'SCCM-Visio' device collection again? Is there a way to only target the individual machine? Will the 'Detection Method' (in the deployment type) of the application kick in and stop it from installing if it is already installed? In order to re-deploy I assume I have to delete the previous deployment too? Is there any way to force the software uninstallation by removing a machine from the AD group? Im sure ive got more questions coming...any help you can offer would be appreciated. Cheers.
sccmn00b Posted January 13, 2013 Report post Posted January 13, 2013 Well, just to answer my own question my testing has come to the following conclusions:- To remove it from one machine I have to create a collection for one machine only and push out an uninstall deployment (and yes the deployment type > detection method confirms if the the application is already there. the additional deployment would need removing so that you can target the collection with the install deployment still cant find out the last one
