SCCM OSD Dell Precision T5600

Question

Hi, I have just took delivery of some Dell Precision T5600 with RAID Controller installed

The problem I’m having is getting our Windows 7 x64 image to work on them and the moment the task sequence fails pretty much right away.

The smts.log reports the following errors

Unable to find the system disk for this machine

Failed to prepare the system partition for staging.

Unspecified error (Error: 80004005; Source: Windows)

Failed to stage WinPE. Code(0x80004005)

ThreadToResolveAndExecuteTaskSequence failed. Code(0x80004005)

Now I thought this would be a driver issue so I imported the following drivers to my boot.wim

PERC H310 for Dell Precision 5.1.119.64

DELL PERC RAID Virtual Device 5.1.119.64

Intel® C600 Series Chipset SAS RAID Controller 3.1.0.1082

So far I have tried completely re-creating my WINPE using WAIK and mounted this and installed drivers above, I have also tried installing them via SCCM but it still it fails

I did test installing vanilla Windows 7 via a CD and put these drivers on a USB disk and it did use the oemsetup.inf driver perfectly fine

Any help would be appreciated

Best advice to you i can give is to install one of the machines manually. Then check the device manager for the correct driver.

I had the same problem with the Lenovo ThinkStation S30 and the stupid C600 Raid controller. This controller is a nitemare for OSD. I got the PE working with the C600 SAS Raid driver from Intel.

Did you check the driver model and version for the RAID controller in your manual build? Only inject this specific SAS RAID driver to your PE, not the AHCI drivers.

If this won't work, check the hardware ID of the controller (something like PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1D6B) and search in your driver sources ini files for the value. From windows PE mount the driver sources with "net use" and load the inf files with drvload. After each inf file check if you can access the HDD with diskpart.
