SCCM 2012 Design Help

Recommended Posts

I have so many questions about SCCM 2012. I am completely new to this. My university is currently using WDS for image deployment. We just use out-of-box install.wim and a customized wdsclient unattend.xml. We also pre-stage our machines in AD. Anyway, I am in charge of reconfiguring the whole deployment infrastructure. Currently this is our setup.

Main Campus (172.38…)

WDS Server

WSUS Server faculty/staff

WSUS for servers

WDS Server for lab machines (172.25…)

WSUS replica for student labs

Second Location

WDS for Lab machines

WSUS replica

Third location

WDS for lab machines

WSUS replica

There is my idea:

Scenario 1

Primary site server – Distribution Point, management Point, SUP, Application Catalog web service, Application Catalog website, Component Server, Asset intelligence point - Main Campus

SQL DP server – main campus

Site System Server-Distribution Point, Management point, SUP – Student Main Campus

Site System Server -Distribution Point, Management point, SUP – Servers, faculty/staff main campus

Site System Server -Distribution Point, Management point, SUP – Second location student labs

Site System Server -Distribution Point, Management point, SUP – Third location for student labs

I really am not sure if the SUP is need at each DP. Right now there is replica WSUS servers at all these locations and I figured it would be best to lessen the traffic going to the primary site but not quite sure if that is necessary.

Please help with any ideas on what would be the best setup for my environment.
