Clients not registering in SCCM 2012

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to post a fix for a problem I had upgrading SCCM from 2007 to 2012. When I installed clients, they installed on the machines, but would show up as No under client in the administration console.

I had 4 different issues to fix

1. I needed to associate my boundaries with a boundary group. I know this is kind of Duh, but I didn't do the initial setup, and was trying to get this working when someone else tried to upgrade our environment and couldn't get it working.

2. I had a problem with clients registering with the server after being installed. So I needed to bind the name of the server with the default instance of IIS. So I needed to right click the default instance and choose bindings. and bind server.domain.com to the default site.

3. I had to recreate the Management Point/MP by changing the method of communication from http to https, then changing it back to http. Apparently changing the method to https, clicking ok, then changing it back to http will force the server to recreate the MP.

4. I did the same steps with the Distribution Point/DP that I did with the MP in step 3.

I hope this will help someone out there who might have the same issues I faced and won't end up wasting 12 hours trying to figure some of these sorts of issues out.
