Task Sequence Advertisement not deploying to workstation

Question

Hi guys,

I am new here, first of all want to compliment on the amount of ressources and useful information within these forums.

First of all my environment is SCCM 2007 R3. I am running into issues with deploying some baremetal machines. I am not able to deploy them or takes awhile after I play around in it to work. I am trying to identify what is I am doing wrong. I am booting from media so NO PXE BOOT. What is driving me crazy is that this issue does not occur all the time.

These are the steps I am using:

  1. Right Click on the new task sequence and press Advertised
  2. Within the advertise Wizard, I choose the proper collection, I make sure the "Make this task sequence available to media and PXE" is checked, make advertisement mandatory, and choose defaults for the rest.
  3. Then I right click on Computer Association and select "Import Computer Information" / "Import Single Computer" and fill out a new Computer name and the mac address of the PC.
  4. At that moment I should be able to simply boot from my media and this should work but it doesnt.

So I have a couple of questions?

  • Is my procedure flawed?
  • What are the logs I could view to make sure that the task sequence (advertisement) is good to go with the proper collection?
  • Is there a delay I need to wait?
  • Is it normal that nothing appears under Computer Association? I was under the impression the computer name/MAC should appear after I add it.
