SCCM 2012 upgrade to SP1 and pre-existing boot images

Recommended Posts

Hello-

We've been using SCCM 2012 for almost a year now, which I am now learning to use.

We had a company come in and set this up for us, and have been using the boot images that they set up with pre-SP1.

We now need to support Win8 Surface Pro tablets, so we've updated to SP1.

I thought I could just add the MS NIC dongle drivers to the existing boot images, but since we have updated to SP1, I'm wondering if I need to do more.

For example, when we did the SP1 update, did that also auto-update the existing x86/x64 boot images to WinPE 4.0, or do I need to create a new boot image manually to support Win8?

Can I have more than 1 x86/x64 boot image(s)? Not sure if I import this if it will over-write my existing, or if I'll be prompted to supply another name for the new image.

I've run "COPYPE.CMD amd64 c:\WINPE64\", but am hesitant to go any further until I get more answers (I haven't imported yet).

Thank you very much in advance for any and all replies, and major thanks for this site- I've been using it quite a bit!

for the sake of others reading this topic, no you do not need to update your boot images as the upgrade process takes care of that for you, however in some cases things can go wrong (such as with antivirus exclusions not being setup correctly) and in those cases you'll need to rebuild the boot images as described here

My apologies, I should have stated my findings- after finding time to research more, I came across the reference you linked to, which answered my question, as well as other posts here that have been a tremendous help for other questions I have.

Many, many thanks!!!!!
