Client.msi attempts to install to D:\

Recommended Posts

I'm running SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2, and my OSD will get all the way to the client install step, and then stop. Here's my setup:

Ran Build and Capture to a VMware VM for Windows 7 SP1. I split it into two parts because I wanted to make sure it grabbed every update. I then ran the second part of the TS from the OS where it starts at the "join workgroup, configure client" step. Although, I did NOT set the OSDPreserveDriveLetter variable to false at that time.

When I use this wim in an actual OSD to a Dell computer (all drivers verified working), it will eventually boot me into windows and tell me that the client.msi returned value 3, and above it tells me that it tried to write to D:\ instead of C. (BTW, I do have OSDPreserveDriveLetter set to false) This errors out and stops the install because it has no free space.

Now... this changes if I deselect the checkbox for the System Reserved partition to not assign a drive letter. Then this all works fine, but I'm stuck with my C drive as an E drive.

I'm willing to redo the Build and Capture again, but since it works the other way, I'm inclined to think that it isn't the root of the problem. I've even tried putting CCMINSTALLDIR="C:\Windows\CCM" in client install properties, but to no avail.

Here is my client.msi log, I've noticed a couple other people have this issue, but no fixes yet.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
