I've recently taken over the SCCM responsibilites for our company and inherited an SCCM2012 install. I was able to upgrade to SP1 and got OS deployments with PXE working. I've also viewed training from Train Signal. I am still very new to SCCM.
Now I am moving on to deploying my first applications...
I've built a CRM Outlook Rollup application (not package) using an .exe with command-line switches. I've made it a required install and it successfully installs on my test computers.
I've used other deployment applications in the past and curious to know if the following is possible with SCCM2012 SP1. I don't see these options in the SCCM GUI.
Have the application install at user logon. My example above is a CRM plugin for Outlook. I would like the install to kick off when the user first logs into Windows while Outlook is closed. Currently, my required install automatically kicks off the install when it receives the deployment from SCCM which is pretty random. This could interupt a user while they're working. I want to force the install at logon so using the Software Center is not a viable option.
Have a pop up box to inform a user that an install will be occurring and to keep Outlook closed during the install. A user clicks OK and the install begins. I'm thinking this step may require putting the install in a bat file with some VBscripting but I'm curious to know if this can be handled inside of SCCM.
Also, if anyone has any real-world best practices or resources for deploying apps to users that would be helpful for me review, I'd appreciate it.
