agarabaghi Posted October 8, 2013 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 Hello, 1st - Great forum, seems like there is a lot of great information on this website that I will have to start looking into. But, I'd like to jump into something: We currently use MDT 2012 and WDS on a Server 2012 box. It works great and I really like the new changes. I've started reading about the application management included in the new version SCCM 2012. Can I install SCCM 2012 on the same box that MDT 2012 and WDS are running on, which our desktops and laptops PXE boot into? I do not want to interrupt the imaging system we have in place right now as it is always being used by the Help Desk. Thanks! Bendes Posted October 8, 2013 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 If you install SCCM2012 on the same server as MDT/WDS and activate PXE on it, it will replace your PXE boot sequence and break MDT sequence... I suggest you to install SCCM2012 on a separate server and play with PXE Response/Collections/IP helpers/etc. to keep both PXE servers working. agarabaghi Posted October 8, 2013 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 Kinda what I thought. Are there steps to integrate the MDT Sequence we use into SCCM? Or is it better to just start fresh?
Bendes Posted October 8, 2013 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 A good beginning on this forum: http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/5131-using-sccm-2012-rc-in-a-lab-part-16-integrating-mdt-2012-rc1-with-configuration-manager-2012/
agarabaghi Posted October 8, 2013 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 Thanks for the link. (Kinda frustrating not having a start menu and trying to follow that guide). I've located the configure ConfigMgr integration wizard, but "Install MDT console extensions for ConfigMgr2012" is greyed out and when i check "Add the MDT task sequence actions to a ConfigMgr server" it does not auto populate the Site Server Name nor the Site Code. Do I need to have our Admin check the features installed for SCCM? Unfortunately I am at the bottom of the totem pole and need to ask for things and basically point at what boxes need to be checked... so any guidance is appreciated. agarabaghi Posted October 8, 2013 Report post Posted October 8, 2013 Forgot to mention I was given a new Windows Server 2012 box dedicated only to SCCM... so we are going to try from scratch. We will see how it goes... lets start the reading
Bendes Posted October 9, 2013 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 In order : - Add WDS Role on Windows Server (but don't configure it) - Add WSUS Role on Windows Server, if you would like to use Software Updates (also don't configure it) - Install SQL Server (and Reporting Services if needed) with the right Collation (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS) - Install SCCM2012 SP1 and configure all needed Roles - Install MDT and integrate it And Have Fun! agarabaghi Posted October 9, 2013 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 Cool. Ive had to ask out AD guy about doing the step that will change our AD schema when installing SCCM2012 and he hasn't gotten back to me. Im going to show him the log that is in the guide, but do you know if it will drastically change anything in our current schema that he should be worried about?
