hoivikaj Posted October 23, 2013 Report post Posted October 23, 2013 I've been waiting for the windows/sccm r2 refresh to look at moving from LANdesk (yeah.... I know) to SCCM 2012. I have set up this same environment about 3 times now in lab environments with 2008r2/2012 and sccm 2012. This build (hoping to make it a production build eventually) is Server 2012 R2 w/SCCM 2012 R2, and I am seeing my WDS service crash immediatly, to the point it will not even start. I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this. See attached screenshots for details.
hoivikaj Posted October 23, 2013 Report post Posted October 23, 2013 I was able to resolve this by disabling PXE on the DP. If you do not have a boot image advertised, WDS will crash upon startup. While I understand why it crashed, I feel there is much to be desired on the error handling side of WDS :-P Thanks anyway! hitman47 Posted October 27, 2013 Report post Posted October 27, 2013 I have also this error and WDS is not booting. Is there a fix for this Problem?
anyweb Posted October 28, 2013 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 have you tried uninstalling PXE on the dp, uninstalling WADK 8.1, reinstalling WADK 8.1 (make sure it's the newest version), re-enabling PXE on the dp ?
smorris Posted October 28, 2013 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Another user has also reported this issue and I too am having it. Search for "SCCM 2012 R2 upgrade broken WDS/PXE" on this forum. I'd paste a link but the paste command appears to be disabled in this topic.
hitman47 Posted October 28, 2013 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 I have found out when not Boot Media is present in SCCM WDS will start but if you have a Boot Media in SCCM then it fails by loading the WIMGAPI.dll from the ADK 8.1. kevlar01 Posted November 22, 2013 Report post Posted November 22, 2013 We are experiencing the same problem. I've found a Hotfix at Microsoft, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2905002/en-us however, I haven't tried it just yet(because it's a hotfix). But, this exactly describes our problem so I've got good hope
kevlar01 Posted November 22, 2013 Report post Posted November 22, 2013 Update: We applied the hotfix to our environment, and the WDS Service is running again!! Don't forget to update the clients and the consoles. Also redistribute the boot images afterwards.
