Dennis Lin Posted October 31, 2013 Report post Posted October 31, 2013 I'm a beginner for SCCM and I'm testing the functions of SCCM 2012. Here I have a question about the OSD. For example: There would be around 20 - 30 applications/packages or more in software library and I would like to set up a task sequence which contains all applications/packages. For difference computers or users, will install difference applications/packages. Is it possible to have a selection list for choosing applications/packages that needed to install during the period of PXE boot? (as we can specify the computer name before starting OS installation.) Iroqouiz Posted November 4, 2013 Report post Posted November 4, 2013 Use a WMI query in the task sequence to filter out applications based on computer model.
Dennis Lin Posted November 18, 2013 Report post Posted November 18, 2013 th Use a WMI query in the task sequence to filter out applications based on computer model. Thank you for the sharing. It's quite helpful for me to plan model-driven deployment. but I still would like to have a user-driven solution for this. For the business cases, different user will use different applications and IT will get the requirements and then start the PC installation based on that requirements. It's a strongly need if the SCCM OSD can have the selection function of applications.
Rocket Man Posted November 18, 2013 Report post Posted November 18, 2013 You'd probably need to look at MDT integration and UDI to achieve this. This would give the end user a choice of software etc... that they wish to install. Another way but is very similar to above is to use collection variables...so if you have finance department computers and finance apps ....simply define collection variables so that the finance apps only get installed on the finance computer collection during OSD. Iroqouiz Posted November 19, 2013 Report post Posted November 19, 2013 Or perhaps User Device Affinity? http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4522-using-sccm-2012-rc-in-a-lab-part-10-using-prestart-and-extrafiles-to-get-more-out-of-uda/
Dennis Lin Posted November 21, 2013 Report post Posted November 21, 2013 Thank both of you for help. I just looked into the MDT integration and UDI and that would hit my point. I will try on this. Appreciate you both again.
